Swashbuckling India and Rajasthan Royals Yashasvi Jaiswal recorded his name in history books in IPL 2023 as the young batsman broke KL Rahul’s record of smashing the fastest half-century in the cash-rich league’s history.
Jaiswal achieved the feat against Kolkata Knight Riders by rocketing his way to a majestic 13-ball 50. The southpaw finished at an unbeaten 47-ball 98s, as RR made a mockery of their run-chase of 150.
As a result, Lucknow SuperGiants skipper KL Rahul is now at the 2nd spot in the list of fastest 50s by a batter in IPL history.
Rahul achieved the feat while playing for the Punjab Kings against Delhi Capitals during the 2018 season. The stylish opener hammered 6 fours and 4 sixes to bring up his half-century in a mere 14 deliveries. He eventually made 51 off 16 deliveries.
4 years later, KKR seamer Pat Cummins joined Rahul as he smashed a whirlwind 14-ball half-century against the Mumbai Indians.
At the 3rd spot is former Indian basher Yusuf Pathan, who knocked off a 15-ball fifty against SRH during a 2014 fixture. Pathan smashed 5 fours and 7 monstrous sixes to finish with 72 (off 22 deliveries), handing his side a four-wicket win.
Another KKR stalwart in the form of Sunil Narine has smashed a 15-ball fifty in the IPL. Narine did that against RCB during the 2017 edition.
Suresh Raina, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan are next on the list with 16-ball half-centuries respectively. Raina achieved it during his majestic 25-ball 87 against the Punjab Kings in Qualifier 02 of the 2014 season.
Meanwhile, Abhishek Sharma scripted history during the 2024 season when he pulverized the Mumbai Indians attack to the tune of 25-ball 63 with the help of three fours and seven sixes. In the process, the southpaw claimed the record of scoring the fastest half-century for the Orange Army in their IPL history.
On the other hand, Kishan joined the party during the 2021 season when he smoked a 32-ball 84 against the SunRisers Hyderabad.
