Few matches of IPL 10 could be played in Lucknow

The 10^th edition of the Indian Premier League is four months away and like every year, promises to provide several moments of thrill for the cricket loving fans, who throng the venues in large numbers across the cities.

One of the things about the League over the years has been the manner in which matches have been taken to different parts of the country to places like Vizag, Kanpur, which don’t have teams in the League.

Like them, there could be yet another addition to the list of new venues. The capital of Uttar Pradesh Lucknow could be the latest city to join the bandwagon next year, although nothing on the matter has been confirmed yet.

"More stadia means more cricket and that is going to be good for the game.

“We can't confirm if IPL will be held in Lucknow next year. But if the arrangements are made according to international standards, matches can be held. The board is going to inspect the facilities before taking a decision," the Chairman of the League Rajeev Shukla said.

The Ekana International Cricket Stadium ,which is presently hosting a Ranji Trophy encounter between Andhra and Hyderabad has, however, received positive reviews about the stadium and expected the venue to be good for batting by the time the IPL comes around.

"It's an amazing ground. The wicket is very sporting but because of the winter conditions the fast bowlers were getting a lot of purchase. On the whole, it was a very enjoyable experience for us. By the time the IPL starts, it will be early summer and I am sure the wicket will be a good one to bat on," Andhra skipper Hanuma Vihari said.

In the past few years, the IPL has gone to several new cities. The likes of Vizag, Kanpur, Raipur etc have all seen matches taken place and some of them, particularly Raipur, has come in for praise from several corners.

The organisers of the League have also ensured that other cities get an equal bit of the action, through the IPL Fan Zone, where in matches are televised live on a giant screen that enables fans to catch their favourite stars in action.
