LEEDS, United Kingdom – Play on the final day of the second Test between England and New Zealand at Headingley on Tuesday started at 1045GMT after a rain delay of 45 minutes.

New Zealand are 158 for six in their second innings, needing a further 310 to reach their improbable victory target of 468 after off-spinner Graeme Swann took his match haul to eight wickets with four for 61 on Monday.

The most any side has ever made in the fourth innings to win a Test is West Indies’ 418 for seven against Australia in Antigua in 2002/03.

And the corresponding record for New Zealand is the 325 for four they posted against Pakistan in Christchurch in 1993/94.

New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, the last of his side’s recognised batsmen, was nought not out and Tim Southee four not out.

England lead the two-match series 1-0 after their 170-run first Test win at Lord’s.
