Gautam Gambhir has responded to reports saying that he had refused to shake MS Dhoni’s hand after the conclusion of their respective teams’ Vijay Hazare Trophy clash, coming up with proof that he, in fact, had taken Dhoni’s hand after the game.
The match in question was the quarter-final between Delhi and Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 23, which was won by Delhi by 99 runs. No Jharkhand batsman could prosper at the crease on the day except MS Dhoni, whose 70* was the highest score of the day, unfortunately coming in a losing cause.
A video showing the moments just after the final ball of the match had surfaced, which showed Dhoni going about shaking the hands of the Delhi players. When he approached Gambhir though, there was no hand forthcoming and the two India cricketers went in different directions after the snub, as seen in that particular video.
Gambhir, the Delhi captain, took the reports to heart and tweeted a picture on the morning of the final of the championship, which show him and Dhoni shaking hands after their quarter-final.
It is doubtful how much of a help this act proved to be though, most of his fans on social media did not realize what the incident was that he was referring to with his tweet. Also, Delhi collapsed to a 139-run defeat to Gujarat in the final of the 50-over tournament, which took place later on the same day.
The reported incident had been of some significance because this is not the first time Dhoni and Gambhir have been known to have differences in opinion.
