The Golden Ball is awarded to the player who tops the list of wicket-takers in a single edition of the T20 World Cup. Current Sri Lankan T20I captain Waninidu Hasaranga has headlined the previous two editions of the marquee event by bagging 16 and 15 wickets respectively.
Former Pakistan pacer Umar Gul headlined the first two editions of the T20 World Cup, claiming 13 wickets apiece.
Former Australian left-arm seamer Dirk Nannes dominated the 2010 edition, which took place in the Caribbean. The former Dutch pacer claimed 14 wickets.
Since 2010, the event has largely been dominated by spinners given that the ⅘ tournaments were held in Asia. While Ajanta Mendis topped the wicket-taking charts in 2012 (15), Imran Tahir (12) and Mohammad Nabi (12) did the same in 2016. Former Dutch pacer Ahsan Malik proved to be an exception to the rule in 2014, as he finished as the joint leading wicket-taker alongside Imran Tahir.
