Deceased former South African captain Hansie Cronje‘s father, Ewie, is considering legal action against the Indian police for implicating his son in the 200o match-fixing scandal.
Ewie Cronje also believes that the Indian police knew about the fixing since 1981 but they didn’t do anything about it.
The original chargesheet filed by the police says that Cronje received more than Rs 12 million from bookmaker Sanjeev Chawla but his father claims that he only received one-fourth of that amount.
Cronje told the Afrikaans Daily Beeld: “It’s nonsense. Where is the money?”
“I’m considering legal action against the Indian police,” he added.
“Then they made Hansie the scapegoat,” he said.
Cronje had initially denied being involved in match-fixing but he later confessed to it which lead to a subsequent ban from all forms of cricket for life.
