Buttler claimed his Test spot, ironically, with head-turning consistency and performances in this year's edition of the IPL. Jos enjoyed a very great year in cricket in all formats as he became the vital cog in English cricket and delivered in every format whenever needed.
Though he mostly played as a specialist batsman, Buttler can obviously also keep wickets too. This year in Tests he scored 760 runs down the order in 10 matches at an average of 45 with six 50s and a single 100. Reliable indeed!
#7 Jason Holder (West Indies)
![Captain of the Caribbean men.](https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=190 190w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=720 720w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=640 640w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/97af8-15460295877479-800.jpg 1920w)
Holder isn't part of a team that makes too much noise in Test cricket at the moment. The Windies are in a building phase, again. And it is this lanky all-rounder who's in the middle of it all. Holder increased his value as a Test cricketer this year as he became a very very handy fast bowler and a stubborn Test batsman to play against.
In the batting front, Holder scored 336 runs at an average of 37 in six matches and snatched up an impressive number of 33 wickets this year at a mind-blowing average of just 12.39.
#8 Pat Cummins (Australia)
![Pat Cummins is growing lethal by the day.](https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=190 190w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=720 720w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=640 640w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://statico.sportskeeda.com/editor/2018/12/9e46a-15460302706890-800.jpg 1920w)
It was a toss-up between Kagiso Rabada, and him. The difference in their stats wasn't much to chose one of them based on their numbers.
But, with Pat Cummins pulling off an impressive show against India in the current Test series, Bhogle decided to go with him as his third quick and No.8. Cummins can also bat and bat admirably long enough which adds to his value.
Cummins enjoyed a great year as he picked 42 wickets in eight matches at 20.52 a piece and one fifer to his name.
