Indian run-machine Virat Kohli has been the numero uno batsman on most yardsticks in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The ‘Highest Average in T20 WC’ list is probably one the best yardsticks that helps us gauge the magnanimity of what the former Indian captain has achieved in the global showpiece event.
The legendary batsman averages an eye-watering 81.50 after 25 innings in his T20 World Cup career. In 25 innings, Kohli has scored 1141 runs- the highest in the tournament’s history- with the help of 14 50+ scores.
The second-best is former Australian middle-order batsman Mike Hussey, who averages 54.62 in 16 innings. The former Aussie run-machine played one of the greatest knocks in the tournament’s history when he hammered Saeed Ajmal for three match-winning sixes in the final over of the T20 World Cup 2010 semi-final.
Speaking of the 2010 event, the Player of the Series of that edition, England’s Kevin Pietersen is at the third spot. The stylish batsman averaged 44.61 and struck at 148.33 in 15 T20 WC innings.
England’s World Cup-winning skipper Jos Buttler is at the fourth spot. The swashbuckling opening batsman has scored 799 runs in 27 innings at an average of 42.05. Buttler is also one of the nine batsmen to score a hundred in a T20 World Cup fixture. The Lancashire cricketer achieved the feat against Australia during the 2021 edition.
The top five is rounded out by Pakistan’s Muhammad Rizwan, who has scored 456 runs @ 41.45, albeit at an underwhelming strike rate of 120.
