Former New Zealand skipper Brendon McCullum holds the record for the highest individual score in the history of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The swashbuckling opener hammered a brutal 123 in just 58 deliveries against Bangladesh at Pallekele during the 2012 edition of the showpiece event. Baz’s knock was studded with 11 fours and seven sixes. And 12 years later, it is still the highest individual score in the event’s history.
At the second spot is the “Universe Boss,” Chris Gayle, who lit up the opening match of the inaugural edition against South Africa by smashing a whirlwind 57-ball 117 with the help of 7 fours and 10 monstrous sixes.
England’s World Cup-winning opener Alex Hales is at the third spot, thanks to his explosive 64-ball 116* against Sri Lanka at Chattogram during the 2014 edition.
Former Pakistan and Bangladesh openers, Ahmed Shehzad and Tamim Iqbal, are at the fourth and seventh spot respectively for their 111* (62) and 103* (63) against Bangladesh and Oman in 2014 and 2016.
The top five is bookended by South African top-order batsman, Rillie Rossouw, who hammered a brilliant 109 off 56 deliveres against Bangladesh in the previous World Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).
Rossouw is followed by New Zealand dynamic batsman, Glenn Phillips, who racked up an astounding 104 (64) against Sri Lanka at the same venue in 2022.
Among the Indians, former left-handed batter Suresh Raina is the sole representative. Raina is at the ninth spot for his magical 101 (60) against South Africa in 2010.
Jos Buttler, the captain of the defending champions England, is at the eighth spot for his match-winning 101* (67) against Australia in 2021.
Chris Gayle is the only batsman to score two T20 World Cup hundreds. The dynamic WI opener smashed his second WC ton in the 2016 event against England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. His 48-ball 100* is at the tenth spot.
