1.Mahela Jayawardena (Sri Lanka)
Over the years, Mahela developed a reputation for having one of the safest pair of hands. He stands at slip most of the time and being in a team which is filled with spinners, Mahela does get a lot of chances to take some catches and is so far the only player to have taken more than 200 in the format.
2.Ricky Ponting (Australia)
Even at the time of his retirement, he was one of the best fielders in his team. He was also one of those fielders who regularly hit the stumps effecting run outs. He is second on the list with 160 catches.
3. Mohammed Azharuddin (India)
At his prime, he was regarded as India’s best fielder. Whether it was at the slips, or at the covers, Azhar was always a sharp fielder and with 156 catches and a catches per innings ratio of 0.469, he is at the 3rd spot.
4. Sachin Tendulkar (India)
Another one of those players whose fielding skills never really vanished despite the age factor. Also when you count the number of surgeries he had in his career, Sachin always fascinated you on the field. One of the reasons he made it to the list was because of his longevity in the game.
5. Stephen Fleming (New Zealand)
Perhaps New Zealand’s best captain and their best slip fielder? Fleming’s catches per innings ratio of 0.481 is one of the best among the top 10 list.
