On 8th May 2016, KKR were geared up and ready to take on the Gujarat Lions at the Eden Gardens. Gujarat Lions won the toss and elected to bowl first which proved to be a wise decision as they had KKR reeling earlier in their innings. The scoreboard read 24/4 when Yusuf Pathan walked out to accompany Shakib Al Hasan. With Uthappa, Gambhir, Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav back in the pavilion, they (Pathan and Shakib) had to carefully construct their innings.

They managed to put on an unbeaten 134-run stand for the 5th wicket to take their team from 24/4 to 158/4 in 20 overs.

Their partnership would go in vain as Gujarat Lions were able to chase down the target with ease thanks to a spectacular half-century from Dinesh Karthik (51). Praveen Kumar was adjudged the man of the match for his spell of 19/2 in 4 overs.
