This partnership took place during the Chennai Super Kings return to the IPL after a ban of two years. In the opening match, CSK were set to take on their arch-rivals and defending champions Mumbai Indians.

Dhoni won the toss for CSK and decide to field first. Good knocks from Ishan Kishan (40), Suryakumar Yadav (43), Hardik Pandya (22*), and Krunal Pandya (41*) helped MI post a total of 165/4 in 20 overs.

CSK fans were devastated at the start of CSK’s run chase. With their most recognized batsmen back in the pavilion, it felt as if CSK’s return wouldn’t end in triumph. CSK were in trouble at 118/8 when Dwayne Bravo single-handedly guided his team within winning margin thanks to his partnership of 41 with Imran Tahir. In the end, CSK managed to win the match with just one ball to spare.
