#3 Brand Kohli continues to rise despite hiccups

Virat Kohli might have been in a soup recently for his 'leave India' comment, but there's little stopping brand Kohli from soaring. His feats on the cricket field are garnering accolades with each passing day, and the recent hiccups notwithstanding, continues to drive in the big bucks.

According to a report in the Economics Times, Kohli, who was named the 83rd richest athlete in the world, is still ruling the advertising world, and is set to overcome MS Dhoni as the highest-earning Indian sportsperson ever.

Speaking about Kohli's recent controversy with a fan, Tuhin Mishra, managing director of Baseline Ventures told ET:

"Such frankness can actually boost the brand, provided it aligns with the brand's message. After all, brands also want to be seen as patriotic. Sports and Bollywood stars usually avoid controversies, but fans want their icons to have a voice".
