After India had made it to the next stage in dramatic fashion, they suffered their first loss at the hands of New Zealand, meaning they had to win their remaining matches against England and South Africa to progress.

Against the English, a Yuvraj Singh-special helped the Men In Blue edge past them and then against South Africa, the world saw the first glimpse of Rohit Sharma, who notched up a half-century and then led by RP Singh, India dismissed South Africa and marched their way to the semifinal.

Australia were beaten fair-and-square there and then in dramatic fashion, Pakistan were dislodged in the final to hand India the title.
