Despite AB de Villiers’ breathtaking 58-ball 77, Pakistan fast bowlers held their own to defeat South Africa in a low-scoring thriller, getting the opposition batsmen all out for 202 to win the match by 29 runs at Eden Park, Auckland. Rahat Ali, Mohammad Irfan and Wahab Riaz picked up 3 wickets each, while Sohail Khan grabbed the all-important wicket of AB de Villiers to seal the match in his team’s favour. Here are the numbers that matter from what will go down as one of the best matches of the World Cup:

#4 Most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in an ODI
Pakistan wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed took 6 catches behind the stumps today; by doing so, he levelled the world record for the most number of dismissals in an ODI match. It has, however, happened 15 times in the history of the game, but only for the second time in a World Cup match. Former Australian wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist alone has done it 6 times.
#3 Fastest to 1000 World Cup runs
South African captain AB de Villiers levelled Indian great Sachin Tendulkars record of being the fastest to 1000 World Cup runs when he was on 34 off 33 balls, achieving the feat in 20 innings. He was eventually dismissed for a 58-ball 77 by a bouncer from Sohail Khan: a dismissal that sealed the fate of the match.
Sourav Ganguly and Viv Richards are at the second spot reaching the feat in 21 innings.
Tendulkar sits at the top of the list in the most number of runs scored by a player in the history of ODI World Cup: 2278 runs in 44 innings. De Villiers, who is 31 years old, has 1043 runs in 20 innings. Ideally, he will have one more World Cup to challenge Tendulkars record. It is difficult to see him break it, though.
#2 AB de Villiers\' 5th ODI wicket
AB de Villiers picked up his 5thODI wicket today when he got rid of Pakistan one-down batsman Younis Khan. Interestingly, the South African captain bowled more oversthan their regular fifth bowler JP Duminy, who conceded 34 runs from his 3 overs. De Villiers, on the other hand, went for 43 runs from his 6 overs.
His previous four scalps include Tom Latham, Trent Boult, Aaron Finch and John Mooney. De Villiers, who bowls right-arm slow medium pace, has bowled 24 overs in his ODI career so far and has conceded 155 runs.
#1 5000 ODI runs without a century
