ICC World T-20: KP all the way!

16th May, 2010 – Kensington Oval saw the making of history in the pages of International Cricket. The Englishmen waited for long and finally achieved what was deservingly theirs. Undoubtedly, England was the best side throughout the tournament, with some exceptional batting from the openers, consistent and controlled bowling from the bowlers and equally amazing fieldwork. To sum it up, a perfect recipe for WORLD CHAMPIONS!

And it’s not one person who should be given the credit for this. Of course, the captain did his job well. Paul Collingwood has been one of the better captains the Englishmen have ever played under. Although, not in the greatest of forms in this world cup, he has been the guiding light for his team, leading through the dark and showing the right way, doing exactly what was needed to put his team in such a respectable position. Beating a team like Australia itself shows the efforts and hard work that England put in. Their efforts finally paid off.

One cannot deny the fact that with a low total of 147, it already looked like a one-sided affair for the Englishmen. But, the unpredictability and the ability to fight their way back into the game are some of the well-known traits of the Aussies. The English skipper was fully aware of this, which is also the reason why England, as a team was not at all complacent or relaxed, after their unbeaten streak till the finals. Playing against Australia was an uphill task, as they are a team to beat. England, definitely making a statement in this tournament, and Australia now having some tough competition! For once, we saw a different result in Cricket.

Now, coming back to the main purpose. One man has stood by his team through thick and thin, in the past as well as the present. That man is exactly one of the reasons why England is where it is. A lot of credit should be given to Kevin Pietersen for standing tall and strong for the English cricket team. He can rightly be termed as “Mr. Dependable”. It is difficult, if not impossible to imagine England’s batting line-up without this shining star. Coupled with perfect technique and class, he plays the right shots at the right time.

Leading by example, KP has been instrumental in many of England’s wins. His batting displays a blend of consistent hard work and a calm temperament. Given this form, KP will surely be dreaded by bowlers to come, in future. The birth of his baby boy has surely brought some really good luck for the proud father. Flying to England and back to the Caribbean was worth, after all. This man knows no stopping, and as a matter of fact, he shouldn’t.

With the big World Cup approaching next year, England will be a team to watch out for. A win of this kind has not only lifted the morale of the team but has also boosted the confidence of the players at an individual level. This will ultimately bring about a positive change in their respective performances in matches to come. England promises to be a challenging side, thanks to Collingwood and his brigade!

KP has spread millions of smiles around the world with his superb match-winning knocks and his fans will surely be awaiting his next performance.
