If SRK’s behavior was unacceptable, then what about our MPs?

In India, we grow up watching only 2 things – movies and cricket, and when we have a blend of both, which IPL guarantees, cricket fanatics around the country are bound to go bananas. This is exactly what has been happening for 5 editions of IPL now. With tremendous success, this exciting format has provided over the top entertainment and an unbelievable cricketing experience, but it has also brought to notice several incidents of faux pas for the IPL organizers, franchisees and players as well. Past one week we have had a spate of such predicaments, whether it be the sting operation on spot fixing, the much talked about SRK-MCA brawl or the most recent Luke Pomersbach’s alleged molestation case.

The delinquent conducts such as spot fixing and molestation must be thoroughly investigated, the law of land must take its course and the guilty should not be spared. I shall restrain myself from commenting on this until we have a clear picture but I have lot to comprehend and talk on SRK-MCA brawl.

To start with, I am not a big SRK fan but I admire him for his certain qualities which are generally respected. SRK is obviously a big public figure and undoubtedly one of the strongest pillars of Indian cinema. I have read and watched both sides of story i.e. the SRK’s version and the MCA’s version and I will refrain from taking sides because it may be possible that MCA guards/officials were obnoxious as SRK mentioned, and may be SRK reacted aptly on wanton man-handling of kids by security personnel. May be in the heat of moment there were some unacceptable derogatory words exchanged. SRK was pumped with his team’s victory over Mumbai Indians and the MCA official in his personal capacity, was rattled. There can be umpteenth reasons discussed here, but I believe it was more a clash of egos here. I’m sure if it was Sachin in place of SRK, he too might have reacted as a responsible father, but this incident at Wankhede wouldn’t have seen the light of day. I simply do not agree that SRK deserved a ban.

I don’t understand why we are gradually becoming a country which wants to ban or expunge anything or everything if it creates noise or invites heated conversations on various platforms where people exercise their freedom of speech. Aren’t they supposed to be left alone? Of course, other than when it concerns national security. Widely acknowledged celebrities like SRK must refrain themselves from getting into such faux pas, but you cannot stop a father from reacting on man-handling of his kids. If SRK’s behavior was unacceptable, then how about the politicians of our country? I read somewhere that SRK, being a celebrity/public figure, shouldn’t have reacted in such a way. I don’t endorse what happened the other night and agree that public figures must set an example for their fans to emulate. They must always be at their best behavior, be humble, warm and cordial.

We all have seen in our Parliament – the supreme legislative body in India, how our MPs behave during some heated discussions. Their behavior and reactions at times are so animated, uncivilized, wild and inexplicable. They throw their shoes on their fellow parliamentarian, vandalize national property and eventually waste nation’s time and exchequer’s money. It brings shame and embarrassment for the whole nation and is an atrocious sight for democracy. How is that acceptable? Why must MPs not be banned from entering the Parliament – the supreme legislative body in India? How they get free pass even after behaving so inexplicably on national/international platform stays beyond my comprehension. How a young nation like ours facing scarcity of exemplary leaders can overcome such dismal deepening in quality of leadership and how are we supposed to lead the world in coming decades? Well, it stays for our able young generation to decide.
