Tasked with a target of 340 on the final day, India crumbled disappointingly to be bowled out for just 155 in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With the defeat, the visitors conceded a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

India's hopes of qualifying for the World Test Championship final are now entirely dependent on a host of improbable results not in their control. They will also need to play out of their skins in Sydney if they are to retain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

On that note, here are India's player ratings from the fourth Test against Australia.

IND vs AUS 2024, 4th Test: Bumrah, Jaiswal & Nitish fight hard for visitors

Rohit Sharma: 0/10

Rohit fell cheaply in both innings, with his manner of dismissals being hugely disappointing. He was once again pedestrian with his captaincy and has been one of India's worst players on the tour so far.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: 8/10

Jaiswal was the pick of the Indian batters across the two innings in Melbourne. He notched up two important 80s, and while his dismissals were completely avoidable, he did his bit for the visitors. The southpaw's catching was rather disappointing, unusually so.

KL Rahul: 2/10

Moved down to No. 3, Rahul couldn't come up with the goods. Despite odd flashes of brilliance, consistency and being able to perform under pressure continue to elude him.

Virat Kohli: 2/10

Kohli played a couple of miserable shots outside off to be dismissed in the Boxing Day Test, leaving India in heaps of trouble. He doesn't seem willing to rein in his game to benefit the team and was also involved in an unsavory incident with debutant Sam Konstas.

Rishabh Pant: 3/10

Pant's scoop off Scott Boland in the first innings was a terribly executed shot, as was his pull off Travis Head in the second essay. He hasn't been able to strike the right balance between risk and reward so far.

Washington Sundar: 6.5/10

Brought into the fold for the first time since Perth, Sundar was assured with the bat and underbowled with the ball. His strategy while batting with the tail towards the end of Day 5 was puzzling as he repeatedly exposed them to the Aussie bowlers.

Nitish Kumar Reddy: 8.5/10

Reddy notched up an incredible century in the first innings, his maiden one in international cricket. While he fell cheaply in the second, the young all-rounder clearly has the technique and temperament to succeed at the Test level.

Ravindra Jadeja: 4.5/10

Jadeja didn't do enough with both bat and ball. He picked up four wickets in the match and wasn't too assured at the crease.

Akash Deep: 6.5/10

Deep bowled well without much reward once again. His lengths were too short at times, which prevented him from finding the edge.

Jasprit Bumrah: 9/10

Barring a brief period on the opening morning when Konstas picked him apart, Bumrah was his usual magical self. He finished the Test with nine scalps and threatened to pick up a wicket with almost every delivery. Where would India be without him?

Mohammed Siraj: 6/10

Siraj bowled well in the second innings after being relegated to first change. He picked up three wickets and hit the right areas throughout. In the first essay, however, the fast bowler went wicketless and leaked runs at 5.3 per over.
