India slumped to a disappointing loss in the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy as Australia held their nerve to come out on top by six wickets at the Sydney Cricket Ground. With the defeat, the visitors were knocked out of the race for the World Test Championship final.
Jasprit Bumrah and Co. were behind the eight ball for large parts of the encounter. With the Aussies needing 162 to win and the captain being unable to bowl, it was largely one-way traffic despite a brief wicket-taking burst.
On that note, here are India's player ratings from the fifth Test against Australia.
IND vs AUS 2024, 5th Test: Batting disappoints yet again
Shubman Gill: 1/10
Returning to the fold, Gill played a couple of terrible shots to be dismissed in the two innings. He couldn't find the right balance between attack and defense despite manning a key role for India.
Yashasvi Jaiswal: 5.5/10
Jaiswal got a couple of beauties from Scott Boland, and it's hard to pinpoint too many flaws in his approach. His catching was good.
KL Rahul: 2/10
Rahul managed only 17 runs in the Test, and while Boland delivered a stunner to send him back in the second innings, his first-innings dismissal was hugely disappointing. He just can't seem to find the right consistency.
Virat Kohli: 1/10
Not much needs to be said about Kohli, for whom history repeated itself. He nicked off twice, leaving India without any middle-order solidity.
Rishabh Pant: 8/10
Pant finally turned in a decent display in the series. He hung in there in trying conditions in the first innings before top-edging a well-directed short ball. The southpaw cut loose in the second essay, hammering a half-century that gave India a somewhat competitive lead.
Washington Sundar: 3/10
Sundar didn't have much to do with the ball. He was moderately disappointing with the bat, although the umpires didn't do him any favors in the first innings.
Nitish Kumar Reddy: 4/10
Nitish scalped a couple of important wickets to give India a first-innings lead, but he wasn't anywhere close to his best with the bat. The visitors could've played a fourth specialist quick instead of him.
Ravindra Jadeja: 2/10
Jadeja was dismissed fairly cheaply in both innings and didn't have a role to play with the ball. Despite conditions being tough for batting, he didn't take enough risks and was a sitting duck.
Prasidh Krishna: 7/10
Prasidh's accuracy wasn't quite there, but he bowled a slew of wicket-taking deliveries across the two innings. If not for his efforts, India would've been absolutely steamrolled.
Jasprit Bumrah: 7/10
Bumrah's 10 overs were obviously threatening, but a back niggle prevented him from playing any further part in the Test. Nevertheless, the ace spearhead finished with the Player of the Series award.
Mohammed Siraj: 6/10
Siraj bowled his heart out in long spells but couldn't quite do enough. The fast bowler was threatening in the first innings and tried his best in the second without much reward.
