India is not winning the World Cup

One look at the betting sites and you will get to know that India is hot favorite to win the upcoming cricket world cup. But let me tell you my dear friends, we are not winning it. There are three teams which are much better than us in terms of team combination, professionalism and bench strength. In my opinion, Australia, South Africa and England are three of the best teams in the competition. Being an Indian, I would love to be proven wrong but my cricketing knowledge says that it is not going to be the case.

Our bowling is just not good enough to win such a big event like world cup. Likes of Zaheer and Harbhajan will make their mark but what about other 30 overs. Majority of cricket experts are of the opinion that part-time spinners of India is going to be very effective in the subcontinent condition. But to win a World Cup, you need to have four quality bowlers, which is not the case with current Indian team. The format of the tournament is such that India will definitely reach the quarter final. After this stage, competition will enter the knock out phase and that is where I think India will struggle to win three crucial matches (quarter final, semi final and final).

In my opinion, India has one of the best batting line up in the world but significant factor here is that most of our top batsman are not in good fitness condition. Sehwag, Gambhir and Sachin are struggling with injuries and I don’t think they will start performing from the word go. Don’t be surprise, if any of them get ruled of the tournament as well. Likes of Virat Kohli, Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan are exciting and has proven themselves in the past but can they handle the pressure of such magnitude. I don’t think so. Yusuf Pathan is hit and miss, he can be hero one day and can be a looser another day. Suresh Raina cannot play good quality fast bowling. Yes, I rate Virat Kohli and I think this world cup will increase his reputation. He is a quality batsman who can not only play an anchor role but also be an attacking weapon.

Coming to the most important aspect of one day cricket, our fielding is really very poor and that is where we are going to lose this world cup. Some of you will say that our fielding has improved significantly in the last few years but come on, we are still not in par with Australia, South Africa, England or as a matter of fact Srilanka.

Simply put, don’t expect miracles from our cricket team because let me tell you in paper, with my reputation on the line, India is not winning this world cup.
