Yuvraj Singh
Yuvraj Singh’s omission from the squad to face New Zealand is perhaps a sign that the World Cup winning all-rounder is no longer a part of the team’s plans as they look forward to next year’s Champions Trophy in England.
While it is true that he hasn’t played an ODI since December 2013 against South Africa, the fact that he was called up for a fitness Test in Bengaluru last month suggested that he was in line for an ODI recall after having already been drafted into the T20I squad earlier in the year against Australia and then again for the World T20.
The 34-year-old along with Gautam Gambhir was also reportedly spoken to by Indian coach Anil Kumble last month during the Duleep Trophy about the the possibility of a comeback to the national side. While Gambhir has made it into the Test squad, the all-rounder hasn’t made it into the ODI squad for the first three matches against New Zealand.
