#6 India vs England, Headingley, Leeds, 2002
This match is best remembered as one of the most thumping wins by India outside the subcontinent. It was the start of a phase of resurgence for Indian cricket, as India began to play a fearless brand of cricket under captain Sourav Ganguly.
Captain Ganguly won the toss and opted to bat first on a damp pitch. Sanjay Bangar and Rahul Dravid ushered a sense of calmness, as they negotiated the English weather and bowlers with their technical supremacy.
Tendulkar top-scored for India, stitching vital partnerships with Dravid and Ganguly, as the three middle-order batsmen hit glorious centuries.
Dravid frustrated the English bowlers, mentally more than physically, while Sachin displayed his wide array of shots. Sachin stepped on the accelerator just at the right time and slogged the bowlers all over the park, a sight resembling the T20 exploits these days.
India declared their innings for a massive 628/8, and a disciplined effort by the bowlers enabled India to bowl out England twice, handing the hosts a sounding defeat by an innings and 42 runs.
Rahul Dravid once again reaffirmed his stature as Mr.Dependable in overseas tours, winning the Man of the Match award for his exemplary knock of 148. India levelled the series and drew the series 1-1.
Result- India won by an innings and 42 runs
Man of the Match- Rahul Dravid (148)
Other Key Performers- Sachin Tendulkar (193), Sourav Ganguly (128), Anil Kumble (7/159)
