India are all set to lock horns with Bangladesh in the second Test of the two-match series. The final encounter of the rubber will be played in Kanpur from September 27.
The hosts thrashed Bangladesh by 280 runs in the series opener and are the heavy favorites to come out on top in the upcoming encounter. They retained the same squad for the second Test, but a change in the bowling department might be on the cards.
India’s squad for the 2nd Test of the Bangladesh series: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Sarfaraz Khan, Rishabh Pant (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah, Yash Dayal.
On that note, here is India's predicted playing XI for the second Test against Bangladesh.
Openers: Rohit Sharma (c), Yashasvi Jaiswal
There are no prizes for guessing India's opening combination for the second Test against Bangladesh. Rohit Sharma and Yashaswi Jaiswal, who have formed a fairly solid pairing at the top of the order, are expected to take guard against the new ball once again.
Rohit, who couldn't deliver in either innings in the first Test, will be keen on chipping in. Jaiswal, meanwhile, will have an eye on a big one.
Middle order: Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant (wk), KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja
India's middle-order batters endured contrasting fortunes in Chennai.
While Virat Kohli and KL Rahul couldn't get among the runs, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja enjoyed productive outings. Kohli's form, in particular, has been rather underwhelming lately, even on docile surfaces. India will want him and Rahul to come up with meaningful knocks.
Changes are unlikely in this department despite the presence of Sarfaraz Khan on the bench.
Lower order: Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav, Akash Deep, Jasprit Bumrah
Kuldeep Yadav's home ground of Kanpur, which sports a black-soil pitch, is likely to tempt India into playing a third spinner. Kuldeep could be preferred ahead of Axar Patel, with his knowledge of the conditions and ability to extract something out of placid wickets being in his favor.
Mohammed Siraj is the more trusted lieutenant at Rohit's disposal, but Akash Deep has been considerably more impressive in the recent past. So if a fast bowler has to go out, it might be the former, with Jasprit Bumrah leading the attack.
