Spinner & Fast bowlers
#4 Ravi Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Shami, and Ishant Sharma
Ravi Ashwin bowled through injury in the second innings of the Trent Bridge Test and rightfully claimed the last wicket of Jamie Anderson. Ashwin participated in the training sessions on both days prior to the Test match and is expected to feature in the team as the lone spinner. Ashwin averages
India was buoyed by the return of Jasprit Bumrah in their side and the fast bowler reminded everyone why he is the cornerstone of India's bowling. Bumrah bowled consistently over the 140 kph barrier and was instrumental in getting the crucial wicket of Jos Buttler. Bumrah then en-route to his third five-wicket haul (5-85) bounced out Chris Woakes with a ripsnorter; one of the rare occasion for an Indian fan.
Bumrah will partner Ishant Sharma (11 wickets at 27.27), who may not have picked up fifers like Pandya and Bumrah, but the enigmatic fast bowler was at his relentless best especially against Cook, claiming the English opener for the 11th time.
Mohammad Shami will round-up the fast-bowling unit. Shami has thus far taken eight wickets in three matches and has at times bowled incisive spells. But, the right-hander has been inconsistent with his line and lengths and has conceded too many boundary balls especially in the last Test. With Virat Kohli hinting at an unchanged XI ahead of the Test, Shami will have another chance to put up a consistent performance.
