In spite of Matthew Wade being brought back into the team for the 4th ODI, Australia’s reserve keeper, Peter Handscomb, retained his place in the playing XI for the last two games. He was selected at the expense of the out-of-form Glenn Maxwell.
The 26-year-old played decently to score 43 in the 4th ODI, but could not get going in the fifth. He was one of Patel’s three victims and fell for a meagre 13 off just 17 deliveries.
The man from Melbourne impressed in the Test series, but struggled in the ODI series against the same opposition, just like his skipper. The upcoming Ashes will be a make-or-break series for the right-handed batsman, provided he still manages to make the cut.
