To say the least, Glenn Maxwell played the innings of his life.

Maxwell always rides his luck, and with his first six that went straight over Dhoni's head, you'd have thought the same for sure. But the 30-year-old stood strong, hit the ball as clean as a whistle and backed his strengths.

Along with the usual beating and bludgeoning of the ball that saw his muster arguably the best T20 innings in India with the help of seven fours and nine maximums, there was a lot more to the Melbourne Stars' talisman's game.

First of all, it was calculated aggression. Every time he found a boundary or touched the nine or 10-run mark in an over, Maxwell decided to take it on to the next level by knocking it for a single. As aforementioned, he played to his strengths.

Maxwell never tried to over-hit the ball by trying something out of his comfort zone. His meeting point with the ball for spinners remained deep in the crease, wherein he had the time to unleash the strike.

Anything on the pads was sent to the ball boys down the fine leg, while the ball around the off stump, which is often used as a trap to catch prey, was met with timing and caressed to extra cover, instead of mid-wicket or long-on - where it would meet the edge.

And of course, how can we not mention the way he finished the innings? With nine required off the last over and with the first two balls being sixes, it could have been anyone's game. But Maxwell stood tall, as cool as ice and took his team over the line.
