The Indian team continues to be plagued with injury concerns in the ongoing series. After Jayant Yadav pulled his hamstring before the toss, opener Murali Vijay injured his left shoulder while fielding at backward point during the second session, and thus could not open the batting for India.
Wicket-keeper batsman Parthiv Patel accompanied KL Rahul, as India embarked on their journey to overhaul England's first innings total of 477.
Vijay's injury being an external one allows him to bat whenever he is ready, and there would not be any restrictions on him according to the stated rules.
However, the Indian team would not be too happy with this development as Vijay hit form in the previous match in Mumbai when he scored a sublime century and combined with Virat Kohli to put together a match winning partnership.

Earlier, England were driven ahead by Moeen Ali and then later by Liam Dawson and Adil Rashid. Dawson, who is making his debut looked very assured at the crease and was given great support by Rashid, and the duo added 108 for the 8th wicket.
Dawson remained unbeaten on 66, and England stretched their first innings total to a formidable 477.
Dawson's score was the highest by a debutant for England batting at number 8. His partnership with Rashid was much needed for England as they were reduced to 321 for 7 in the morning session. These innings showcased the depth of the England batting as the lower order drove home the advantage on Day 2.
It was a tough day in the office for Ravichandran Ashwin who started the day brightly by taking out Ben Stokes, but then struggled to find a way through. He finished with unflattering figures of 1 for 151 in 44 overs.
Jadeja was the standout bowler and Amit Mishra was very unconvincing on his comeback. This performance could well decide his Test future.
The Indian fast bowlers were impressive as both Umesh Yadav and Ishant Sharma toiled hard in the heat and kept running all day. Umesh and Ishant both picked up a couple of wickets.
India lead the 5-match series 3-0 and would love to put in another stellar show with the bat on the pitch which is not offering any substantial assistance to the bowlers.
