Shikhar Dhawan had a poor outing in the only Test that he played in

He was expected to shoulder the batting responsibilities with Kane Williamson, but Taylor proved to be a big disappointment for the visitors, amassing a mere 89 runs in the 3 Tests that included no fifties. With the Kiwis entering a challenging phase in their cricket, his role will be vital and he will need to get his act together soon.

Shikhar Dhawan

Dhawan played just the solitary Test in the series at Kolkata and flopped in that big time, scoring 1 and 17 in the two innings. With KL Rahul looking more promising by the day and Gautam Gambhir making a good case for himself to be in the squad for the England series, it really looks like Dhawan may have to do something exceptional to find a permanent place in the Test team in the future.

Umesh Yadav

While the pitches in the series offered a lot of assistance for the spinners, Umesh Yadav’s disappointing show with the ball, especially when it got old proved to be a dampener.The 28-year-old, who last year demolished the South Africans with his pace in the Delhi Test match, could muster just two wickets and he will look to put up a much better showing in the ODI series and in the England series that follows that.

Martin Guptill

He came into the series with lack of runs and finished it in pretty much the same manner. New Zealand have a problem at the top of the order and Martin Guptill is the one who is giving them those headaches. An outstanding white-ball player, Guptill has just not found the going easy while facing up to the red ball and once returning back to his homeland, it will be interesting to see what his future holds for him in the longer format of the game.

Jeetan Patel

Drafted into the side after Mark Craig got injured, Jeetan Patel was expected to bring his experience into play, but he could not make as big an impact as he would have liked. The 36-year-old picked up six wickets in the two Tests that he played and it will be interesting to see if the selectors put faith upon him agains if the need arises in the future for a callup to the Test team.
