The India-Pakistan cricket rivalry is one of the most intense rivalries in the history of sports. Their first face-off took place in 1952 during Pakistan's tour of India. India vs Pakistan, 1st Match, ICC CT 2004
India and Pakistan first met in a group-stage match on 19 September at Edgbaston, Birmingham in the 2004 ICC Champions Trophy where they were both members of Group C. Pakistan won the toss and sent India to bat first. India scored 200 runs in 49.5 overs and Pakistan clinched the victory by 3 wickets. Pakistan's Mohammed Yousuf was declared the Man of the Match who scored 81 in 114 balls.

India and Pakistan were members of Group A when they faced each other on 26 September at SuperSport Park, Centurion for a group stage match in the 2009 ICC Champions Trophy. Pakistan again won the toss but this time they decided to bat first. They scored 302/9 in 50 overs and India failed to reach the target, finishing their innings for 248 in 44.5 overs. Shoaib Malik was named the Man of the Match for his 128 runs out of 126 balls. This marked the consecutive victory of Pakistan over India in the ICC CT.

In the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, India and Pakistan clashed in the last group-stage fixture on 15 June at Edgbaston, Birmingham as a member of Group B. India won the toss this time and elected to bowl first. Because of weather disturbances during Pakistan's innings, the match was shortened to 40 overs for each side. Pakistan managed to score 165 in 39.4 overs before rain intervened again. As a result, India's innings were additionally reduced to 22 overs, with a revised target of 102 runs. India secured their first ICC CT victory against Pakistan via the DLS method after reaching the target in 19.2 overs. Bhuvneshwar Kumar who took 2 wickets in 8 overs was named Man of the Match.

India faced their rivals Pakistan in the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in a group-stage clash as a member of Group B on 4 June at Edgbaston, Birmingham. Pakistan's revised target was 289 in 41 overs and they scored 164/9 in 33.4 overs. India was declared the winner by the DLS method, marking the second victory of India over Pakistan in the ICC CT.
