Trophy: Champions Trophy, 2017 , Date: June 18, 2017, Location: Oval, England
Result: Pakistan won by 180 runs
Man of the match: Fakhar Zaman
What a setup we had for the finals of the Champions Trophy, 2017 as arch-rivals India took on Pakistan in a dream final.
Pakistan, who just managed to qualify for the Champions Trophy were by no means expected to reach the finals.
India on the other hand had an upper hand having comfortably defeated Pakistan in the group stage match. They were also defending their Champions Trophy.
Having won the toss, Indian captain, Virat Kohli chose to bowl first.
Pakistan had a new opener this time in the form of Fakhar Zaman; the name India were not familiar with until this match.
The Pakistani openers started superbly with an opening partnership of 128. Fakhar Zaman along with Babar Azam and Mohammad Hafeez then took Pakistan's score to a mammoth 338 in 50 overs.
Fakhar Zaman's blistering knock of 114 of 106 balls had 12 fours and 3 sixes.
Chasing 339, India were blown away by Mohammad Amir. The speedster ripped apart India's top order with important wickets of Sharma, Dhawan and Kohli.
A lot was expected from Yuvraj and Dhoni, but they both fell cheaply. Hardik Pandya was the lone fighter as he made a fighting 76 of 46 deliveries. Apart from him, no one made a valuable contribution.
Hasan Ali and Mohammad Amir took 3 wickets each having accounted for only 19 runs and 16 runs respectively.
In the end, India fell short of the target by 180 runs; a massive unexpected defeat against the arch rivals Pakistan.
Scorecard:
Pakistan- 338 for 4 (Fakhar 114, Azhar 59, Hafeez 57*, Kedar 1-27)
India- 158 (Pandya 76, Amir 3-16, Hasan 3-19)
