Rohit Sharma, who is leading the Men in Blue in the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the absence of Virat Kohli, failed to guide by example in his first outing as a skipper.

After being put in to bat, Rohit had said that it was a good toss to lose but his statement completely backfired as the hosts were reduced to 29/7 before finally being dismissed on 112 in 38.2 overs.

Sri Lanka's pacers made the most of the lateral movement they were getting with the new ball, pushing the Men in Blue on the backfoot right from the beginning.

Lakmal was constantly teasing Rohit with his away seam movement and the Hitman ended up poking at one short of a good length delivery that bounced a little extra.

Rohit tried to defend and Niroshan Dickwella collected it beautifully forcing India's stand-in captain to walk back to the pavilion, opening the floodgates for a batting collapse.
