West Indies batsman Lendl Simmons will miss the rest of the tour to India due to a back injury. The 29-year-old is returning home to work on his fitness and West Indies fans would be hopeful that he would be able to be fully fit ahead of next year’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Simmons has been suffering from the injury for a while and wasn’t picked in the West Indies XI for the first 2 ODIs despite being the top run scorer in T20 matches in 2014. The Trinidadian has been a regular fixture in the Caribbean side’s limited overs team over the last couple of years.

The right-handed batsman has played 61 ODIs for the West Indies, scoring 1785 runs at an average of 31.31.

With 2 ODIs played so far in the series, the two teams are tied at 1-1, with the 3rd ODI in Vishakhapatnam already cancelled due to HudHud cyclone, which has devastated the costal city over the last 24 hours. The sides now move on to Dharamsala for the 4th ODI on Friday.

The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) have announced that they will name a replacement soon.
