North Wales’ club side Colwyn Bay were involved in a momentous match when their bowler of Indian origin, Shrikant Mundhe, became the first Liverpool Competition Premier League bowler to take 10 wickets in an innings.

The fast bowler bowled out Birkenhead Park club's batting line-up on Saturday's tight victory at Penrhyn Avenue in Rhos-on-Sea,Colwyn Bay.

Mundhe became only the 17th league player – dating back to 1920, to claim a full house (10 wickets in an innings) and just the fifth player, since the standardisation of fixtures in domestic cricket in United Kingdom in 1949.

He also became the only man to achieve the feat of taking 10 wickets in an innings since the Premier Division was formed back in 1999.

The bowler rocked the opposition with his bowling performance, but the game could have gone in the opposition’s favour. Birkenhead Park won the toss and chose to bat earlier in the game. Mundhe’s performance came against the rock-bottom side in the division Birkenhead Park, who will be facing relegation this season.

The game started with Park batting first and only managing a paltry 168 runs on the board as the right-arm seamer picked up all the 10 wickets, ending up with figures of 10-85 in 24.1 overs on the day. The 10-wicket haul took Mundhe’s season tally to 54 league wickets for the campaign so far.

The 27-year old Maharashtrian’s job for the day did not end there, as he had to rescue his side from 126-8 at one point, to winning the game with just a wicket in hand. Mundhe ended up top-scoring for his side as well, with a score of 44 not out, which completed a comprehensive performance from the Indian.

The team were helped by Jordan Evans’ 37 and Patrick Leach’s 30 early on, as the Bay kept their good record for the season of 25-7 win. The result almost guarantees a spot in next season’s league for the North Wales cricket club.

After the game, Colwyn Bay Cricket Club’s member Brian Roberts recalled that it had been more than 35 years since a Bay bowler had managed to claim a 10-wicket haul.

Mr. Roberts, who is the chairman of Sports Conwy and a director of Colwyn Bay Rugby Club said that Billy Lloyd, 76, and David Madoc-Jones, 75, had both taken a 10-for during their playing days. Interestingly, both the former players are still members of the cricket club.
