One of the three teams yet to win the IPL trophy, Delhi Capitals (DC) have an unwanted record to their name of being the team with most defeats in the IPL. The Delhi-based franchise started the tournament well, with two semifinal finishes in the first two editions, but lacked consistency thereafter. The 2012 season was the best for them, where they finished at the top of the table after the league stage but bowed out of the tournament after losing to KKR and CSK in Qualifiers. Six consecutive seasons of not get into the playoffs followed. During this phase, they also became the team with most wooden-spoon finishes (4 times). The 2019 season saw DC qualify for the playoffs for the first time in seven years. They ultimately lost to CSK in the qualifiers and finished third.

From 175 completed games, Delhi have won 76 and lost 97 games, plus 2 super-over games with one loss and one win. The win percentage of 44% is the lowest among the eight teams at present.
