# 3 Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene was appointed the Head Coach of the Mumbai Indians squad from IPL 2017. He coached the side for two seasons and enjoyed considerable success with the Rohit Sharma as the captain. He took over the coaching baton from Ricky Ponting who was in charge of the side in IPL 2016.
The Srilankan stalwart was able to mentor the team to the champions title in the IPL 2017 edition, but the Mumbai side failed to reach the playoffs in the 2018 edition of the Indian Premier League. With the usual slow start to the season Mumbai Indians have during every IPL season, they could not reach the playoffs and ended up 5th on the points table in IPL 2018.
In total, he had ensured 18 wins in 31 matches for Mumbai Indians. His winning percentage of 58.06 ensures that he is the 3rd best coach in the IPL history.
