IPL 2013 initial squads announced

The Initial squads of the IPL 2013 has been announced by the franchises. A total of 179 players have been retained by the nine franchises on the same financial terms.

The Franchises have clearly focussed on performance in the IPL in making their decisions as to which players will form part of their respective core groups for the 2013 season. Each Franchise has room under the Salary Cap to be able to sign additional players,” IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla said.

Team Hyderabad, recently bought by SUN TV Networks, has retained 20 players, who played for the now disbanded Deccan Chargers, including the foreign stars – Dale Steyn, Cameron White, Jean Paul-Duminy and captain Kumar Sangakkara.

The rumors of Mumbai letting off Harbhajan Singh has been squashed and the franchise has confirmed retaining the veteran spinner. Pune Warriors have released Kiwi Jesse Ryder while Sourav Ganguly has announced his retirement from all forms of the game. Punjab has released Stuart Broad while Chennai Super Kings has release the present Aussie T20 captain George Bailey, Doug Bollinger and Suraj Randiv among the big names.

In this edition of the IPL, every franchise has a salary cap of up to $12.5m with which they can build a squad containing a maximum of 33 players, including 11 overseas recruits. The transfer window opens on November 19 and the franchises will be able to sign the uncapped Indian players. From November 1, franchises can re-sign players who they took as temporary replacements in IPL 2012.
