IPL 2014 final shifted to Bengaluru

BANGALORE, INDIA – FEBRUARY 27: Fans celebrate a six during the 2011 ICC World Cup Group B match between India and England at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on February 27, 2011 in Bangalore, India.

The 2014 Pepsi IPL final, previously scheduled to be held on June 1 at Mumbai, has now been shifted to M. Chinnaswamy stadium, Bengaluru. The very next day has been announced as the reserve day for the final match. The changes were necessitated due to Chennai’s ineligibility to host any matches this season.

However, Mumbai still stands to gain, as the city has now got 2 big-ticket matches, with 2 of the 3 play-offs’ being played at Wankhede and Brabourne stadiums, which have been moved from Chennai, as the Chepauk-Tamil Nadu Municipal Corporation row over illegal construction of 3 stands and a gymnasium at the venue hasn’t yet come to an end. Kolkata will host the other play-off fixture, thereby getting compensated for losing out on a KKR home match to Cuttack.
