Mumbai Indians have drafted in West Indian top order batsman Lendl Simmons to replace the injured Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Jalaj Saxena for the rest of the 7th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
As per IBNLive, the official IPL website carried the information:
“The IPL Event Technical Committee has approved Lendl Simmons as a replacement player for Jalaj Saxena for the remainder of the Pepsi IPL 2014 season. Simmons is eligible to play for Mumbai Indians with immediate effect.”
The 29-years-old Simmons has played 8 Tests, 58 ODIs and 30 T20 internationals for West Indies, and he will be playing in the IPL for the first time.
Mumbai Indians had a great last year winning both the IPL and the Champions League T20, but they have got off to a disastrous start this season losing all their 4 matches convincingly. Much of it is due to them losing out valuable personnel in Glenn Maxwell and Dwayne Smith in the IPL 2014 Auctions, who have turned out to be the signings of the season thus far.
