The Indian Premier League provides a wonderful platform to the Indian domestic cricketers to showcase their talent in front of the cricketing world. They also get the chance to get one step closer to their dream of playing in the national colours.
However, before the IPL, the cricketers also play in various domestic tournaments. The super-performers in the domestic tournament generally carry their good form in the IPL too. But there are exceptions too.
Some players who performed brilliantly in the domestic tournaments have failed to replicate their performances in this year’s IPL. Somehow these players have failed to live up to their expectations.
We have selected the 5 of them. Here they are:
Hardik Pandya
The Baroda all-rounder, who recently played for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2016, performed brilliantly in the domestic T20 tournament Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2015-16 to become the highest run-getter in that tournament.
The impressive all-rounder performed well for India too. He bowled the crucial last over in the crunch encounter against Bangladesh in the T20 world cup where India managed to sneak a 1-run victory.
However, his performance in the ongoing IPL 2016 has been below par as he has just managed to score 30 runs in 9 matches at a dismal average of 6. With the ball too, he has been far from impressive as he has just managed to pick up 3 wickets in the 9 games he has played.
Barring some spectacular fielding efforts, his contribution to the Mumbai Indians team is very minimal. This young all-rounder will surely look to come good in the upcoming matches.
Shreyas Iyer
The young Mumbai batsman was phenomenal in the Ranji Trophy 2015-16 season as he amassed a mammoth 1321 runs at an astonishing average of 73.38. The talented right-hander was instrumental in leading Mumbai to their 41st Ranji title.
He continued his good form in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy too as he scored 284 runs in the 8 games he played. Considering his form, Shreyas was tipped to do well in the IPL 2016 too.
However, Shreyas hasn’t been at his best in the IPL so far. Playing for the Delhi Daredevils, he has just managed to score 22 runs in 5 games. He was even dropped for the last 3 games and things are not looking rosy for this young man.
He can take confidence from the way he fielded in the game against the Kolkata Knight Riders. The young talented batsman will definitely try to improve his performance whenever he gets his chance.
Pawan Negi
The young all-rounder from Delhi was a star performer in the 50-over domestic tournament Vijay Hazare Trophy as he picked up 16 wickets in the 9 games he played. He also performed well with the bat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament where he scored 173 runs at an astonishing average of 86.50. in the 9 games he played
Delhi Daredevils bought this young talent for an astronomical figure of INR 8.5 crores in this year’s auction. It showed the kind of faith the franchise had on this youngster.
However, so far he has failed to live up to the expectations as he performed poorly in the 6 games he played. Negi has scored only 51 runs and failed to pick up any wickets in those 6 games. He even went out of the team after the 5 games and Delhi included him in the playing XI in the game against Rising Pune Supergiants.
Harshal Patel
The Gujarat bowler picked up 11 wickets in 9 games in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He also performed well for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise in IPL 2015. Harshal picked up 17 wickets at a decent economy of 7.48 in the 15 matches he played.
However, this year, he has been below par. He has only managed to pick up 1 wicket in the 5 matches he has played. The entire RCB bowling unit has been awful this season as it has failed to defend big scores on a regular basis.
The young fast bowler still has the time to improve his performance. He will surely aim to improve his performances.
Aditya Tare
The Mumbai domestic team’s captain who led Mumbai to their 41st Ranji Trophy title, was good with the bat too as he scored 569 runs in 10 games he played.
Tare was brilliant for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali as he scored 311 runs in the 8 games he played. He was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad this season and he was expected to do well in the IPL 2016.
However, he failed to do so in the 3 games he played. Tare has accumulated only 8 runs in the 3 games he played(he didn’t bat in one game) and after that, he has not been picked in the playing XI
The Mumbai captain will surely try to prove his worth in the IPL whenever he gets a chance.
