Murugan Ashwin has been the surprise package in a dismal Pune campaign

The little-known leg-spinner from Chennai turned quite a few heads during the auctions a couple of months ago, bagging a whopping 4.5 crores from the Rising Pune Supergiants.

With the presence of India’s frontline spinner, Ravi Ashwin, and the Australian import, Adam Zampa, some questioned Murugan’s hefty prize tag and his role in the team. He, however, managed to make an instant impact, taking six wickets from his first three matches.

Amidst the insipid Pune bowling attack, Murugan has managed to provide the odd moments of brilliance. It might be his debut season, yet he’s the second highest wicket taker for his franchise after Thisara Perera, and his managed to overshadow the other Ashwin.
