South African top-order batsman, Hashim Amla is set to be named as the replacement for the injured Kings XI Punjab player, Shaun Marsh, according to a report on ESPNCricinfo. Marsh has been ruled out of the rest of the tournament due to a back injury.
According to the report, Amla has received the clearances required to join the team and feature in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the first time. Amla was a part of the IPL auction with a base price of INR 1 crore, however, the South African went unsold.
In 88 T20s that Amla has played in, he has scored 2446 runs at an average of 31.35 and a strike rate of 125.95. In 2016, Amla has scored 308 runs in 7 innings at an impressive average of 77.00 and a strike rate of 146.66.
This will come as a huge relief for the Punjab franchise who have been in a bad run of form this season. Amla's presence could bring a much-needed balance at the top of the batting order.
Marsh had hurt his back while fielding in the match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 19.
