Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a comfortable 7-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians to register their first win of the season at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Monday. Captain David Warner was the star of the show for the home side with an unbeaten 90 from just 59 deliveries.

Earlier in the game, Ambati Rayudu and Krunal Pandya helped Mumbai Indians to a score of 142/6 after they were reduced to 60/4. Despite Tim Southee’s best efforts with the ball for the Rohit Sharma-led team, the Sunrisers were always in firm control of the chase.

What the captains had to say

Warner, who was also named the Man of the Match, was full of praise for his bowlers.

“I'll put it down to the bowlers. I asked them during the meetings to execute and back their plans. With two batsmen in, it looked like we could be chasing 160. The key thing today was the ball actually swung for 20 overs,” the Australian said.

Speaking about his own knock, Warner said: “Just about me playing my game, I got dropped again, and that ball normally deceives me, has been a theme throughout my career.”

Sharma, on the other hand, was visibly disappointed with his team’s performance. He refused to blame the bowlers and mentioned that his team’s batsmen have to step up.

“When you get that sort of score, you can only hope that the bowlers deliver but you can't expect a lot from them. We have to step up as a batting unit. We need to see what we can do as a team. We have a lot of experience in this squad.

“All the games we have lost, we haven't scored enough runs. I don't want to press the panic button as it’s too early, We have been in the same position previously. Southee was superb, wasn't he,” he said.
