The record for most sixes in match was broken in the fifth match of the season when the Chennai Super Kings locked horns with the Kolkata Knight Riders at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. The visitors were asked to bat first where they posted a mammoth total of 202 in their 20 overs, courtesy of a superb innings by Andre Russell, who smacked a 36-ball 88 with the aid of 11 sixes and a four.

The hosts took the task at hands and saw it through, thus bringing down the total with a ball to spare. Sam Billings' knock of 56 runs from 23 balls was crucial to complete the chase.

A total of 31 sixes were smashed in the match (KKR - 17 sixes; CSK - 14 sixes), which is the most number of sixes in a single IPL match so far.
