IPL 2018 has been a blockbuster as it marked the return of the teams of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. It has always been interesting to find out few young players playing against the world-class players.
Uncapped players have always played a huge role in their team's successes. They have again shown their credibility in this tournament. IPL has provided a platform for players like Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya to make it to the Indian Cricket Team.
However, every season we witness few players spending the entire tournament in warming up the benches. This year too, there have been players who have performed extraordinarily in the domestic season but have failed to make it to the XI.
Let's look onto few players who deserve to be in the XI on the basis of their performances in the domestic season.
#1 Ishank Jaggi
Jaggi was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a price of Rs. 20 Lakh. Though he has been fantastic in the domestic season, he has failed to make it to the XI.
Ishank Jaggi has played 75 matches in the first class cricket and scored 4910 runs at a splendid average of 44.23. He has 18 centuries and the same number of half centuries under his bag. He has even dominated the limited overs cricket where he has scored 2840 runs in his 74 matches at a phenomenal average of 46.55. His highest score has been that of 159*.
The Jharkhand player would be hoping to get a chance to show his capabilities in the tournament. KKR is currently in the crucial stages of the tournament and Jaggi's experience can prove to be beneficial for the team. KKR have struggled to opt four promising overseas players. Jaggi can be tried in place of Javon Searles as he'll provide more experience to the batting lineup.
#2 Manjot Kalra
The U-19 la was bought for Rs. 20 Lakhs by Delhi Daredevils. He came into limelight when he guided the Indian U-19 team to the U-19 World Cup with his blistering knock of 101*.
Manjot scored 283 runs in his 6 innings at a phenomenal average of 47.1 in the 2018 U-19 World Cup. He proved to be a very effective opener alongside Prithvi Shaw in the entire tournament.
Delhi Daredevils have been officially knocked out of the tournament. Thus, Kalra could experiment in the future matches as an opener. Kalra can be tried ahead of Jason Roy in the future games. Kalra and Shaw made few blistering partnerships in the U-19 World Cup 2018 and it would be quite interesting to see the young lads opening the innings of Delhi Daredevils.
#3 Khaleel Ahmed
Khaleel Ahmed was bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad at a whopping amount of Rs. 3 Cr. However, he has not received a chance to show his worth in the tournament. His expensive bid in the auction is a result of his exceptional performances in the domestic circuit.
Khaleel has played 8 List A matches and bagged 13 wickets at a sensational economy of 4.92 and an outstanding average of 25.38. He has shown few extraordinary performances in the T20s as well. He has played 11 T20s and bagged 17 wickets at a phenomenal economy of 6.88 and an astounding average of 17.41.
It seems to be difficult for Khaleel to get into the playing XI because of the presence of the highly experienced bowling unit in the team who are making several wonders.
#4 Mayank Dagar
Mayank Dagar was bought by Kings XI Punjab for a price of Rs. 20 Lakh. Dagar has shown various blistering bowling performances in the domestic circuit.
He has played 11 matches in the first class cricket and bagged 30 wickets at a phenomenal economy of 2.90. He has two 4 wicket haul and one 5 wicket haul under his bag. He has also shown few impressive performances in the T20 cricket where he has bagged 12 wickets at a decent economy of 7.34.
Kings XI Punjab is currently in the crucial stages of the tournament and they may count on Dagar to lead them through the playoffs. Dagar can be tried in place of Mohit Sharma who is currently struggling with his form in the recent matches.
#5 Apoorv Wankhede
Wankhede was bought for a price of Rs.20 Lakhs by Kolkata Knight Riders. Wankhede has been amazing for Vidarbha in the domestic season. He played a huge role in taking his team to the Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup.
Apoorv Wankhede has played 11 first-class matches and scored 487 runs at an outstanding average of 40.58. He has 2 first-class cricket centuries under his bag. He has also been pretty impressive in the limited overs cricket. He has played 40 T20s and scored 699 runs at a decent strike rate of 129.68.
The Vidarbha lad would be hoping to get a chance to show his capabilities in front of the master class players. However, it seems that Wankhede may not get an opportunity to showcase his performance as KKR is currently playing the crucial stages of the tournament
