The BCCI wanted to add two new teams for the fourth edition of the IPL in 2011. Hence, the auction for expansion of teams took place in 2010, in which the two highest bids made were chosen. The Rendezvous Sports World chose Kochi as its venue, after making the second highest bid.
The franchise participated in only one IPL season, 2011(Season 4). Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene captained the side, and Geoff Lawson was their coach. Kochi played their home games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi and Holkar Stadium in Indore.
The team had several star players like Brendon McCullum, Brad Hodge, Muttiah Muralitharan and Ravindra Jadeja. In the 14 matches they had played in the 2011 season, they won six and lost eight matches, with a winning percentage of 42.86.
The Kochi Tuskers finished eight in the table after the league games. In September 2011, the BCCI terminated the Kochi franchise as they failed to pay the total franchise fee that was due.
Seasons: 2011
Best finish: 8th
