The Deccan Chronicle Group owned the Hyderabad franchise. The Chargers played five seasons in the IPL, from 2008-2012. Adam Gilchrist captained the side for the first three editions of the IPL. In the first season, the team finished at the bottom of the table.
Though they had several star players like Shahid Afridi, Chaminda Vaas, Herschelle Gibbs and Andrew Symonds Chargers managed to win only two out of the 14 league games. In the second season though, they surprised everyone by claiming the title in South Africa defeating the Royal Challengers in the finals at Johannesburg.
The left-arm seamer, RP Singh won the Purple Cap claiming 23 wickets in the tournament. In the 2010 season, they were forced to play their home game outside Hyderabad due to the Telengana issues. In the next two seasons they failed to reach the playoffs. In September 2012, the BCCI terminated the franchise over a financial dispute with the franchise owners.
Seasons: 2008-2012
Best finish: Champions - 2009
