Throughout the 10 seasons of IPL, we have seen quite a few players move from one franchise to another every season. This is the beauty of the league that every player gets a taste of playing in a variety of conditions across the country.
This time around, many players have been picked by their first-ever IPL franchise. Here is a look at 5 players who are back to where they started with.
#5 Aditya Tare
We all remember Aditya Tare for hitting that famous six off James Faulkner in Mumbai Indians' encounter against Rajasthan Royals in 2014 that helped MI get an entry into the IPL playoffs. He is back with the men in blue and gold again this year.
Tare played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils after leaving the Mumbai Indians in 2016 and 2017 respectively. MI lack a genuine wicket-keeper and hence Tare is likely to be given the wicket-keeping duties.
#4 JP Duminy
The South African middle-order batsman is back with the men in blue and gold as well for IPL 11. Duminy played the 2008 and 2009 season for Mumbai Indians and performed consistently for them. After playing for the Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Daredevils, the Mumbai-based franchise picked him back as they needed an experienced batsman in the middle order.
He can also slip in a couple of cheap overs of off-spin when required. Duminy's all-round abilities and experience make him a very valuable cricketer in the T20 format.
#3 Murali Vijay
The Chennai opener will don the yellow again in the eleventh edition of the IPL. Vijay, during his stint with the Chennai Super Kings, had formed a great partnership with Mike Hussey and the duo formed the best opening pair in the IPL in CSK's years of glory.
After CSK, Vijay has played for the Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab but didn't get going for either of those franchises. This year, he is likely to open the innings for the CSK alongside former CSKian Faf du Plessis.
#2 Yuvraj Singh
The 'Punjab da Puttar' is back to his home franchise after 7 years. Yuvraj played for Kings XI Punjab in 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons and was a vital cog in their team. After that, he played for several IPL teams and even won the tournament with SRH in 2016.
Kings XI are hunting for a good captain and Yuvi's name will surely be the first to pop up. Under Yuvraj's captaincy, Kings XI made it to the semi-final of IPL in 2008. The KXIP fans will be delighted to see their prince back in red and silver and leading them.
#1 Gautam Gambhir
The Delhi southpaw is back to his home-based IPL franchise for the eleventh edition of the IPL. It all started for Gambhir at the Delhi Daredevils in 2008. He led them in the third season of IPL before making a move to the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Gambhir, in the twilight of his career, is back with his first-ever franchise to lead them. Delhi were in search of an able leader for a long time and they will be mighty pleased to have their hometown hero back.
