2011 Champions: Chennai Super Kings

Chennai Super Kings lifted the title for the second time in a row in the fourth edition of IPL by defeating Daniel Vettori's RCB by 58 runs in the final. Having played three finals in four years, Dhoni's CSK became the first team to win the trophy twice and in successive years.
This IPL also saw an expansion from eight teams to ten. Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala, now defunct, were the two new franchises added. Thus, the format of the glamorous T20 event was altered and playoffs were introduced.
The ten teams were divided into two groups of five each. Each team faced the other four teams in their respective groups twice (one home and away), the four teams in the other group once and the one remaining team twice. A random draw was used to determine the matches.
