‘Captain Cool’ MS Dhoni was bought by the Chennai Super Kings for a then-record $1.5 million during the inaugural IPL auction in 2008. Since then, the former Indian skipper has led them in eight consecutive seasons (2008-2015).

He is the longest-serving skipper in the IPL and is also the only captain to successfully retain the title.

The Chennai Super Kings have entered the knockouts in all eight seasons under Dhoni, winning the title twice in 2010 and 2011. Dhoni then played for the Rising Pune Supergiant franchise in the 2016 and 2017 editions.

He has scored 3561 runs in 159 matches at a strike-rate of 136.75. Dhoni has made 17 half-centuries in the IPL, with the highest score of 70*. He has been a regular contributor with the bat scoring at least a fifty in all eight seasons. His valuable contributions behind the stumps include 76 catches and 30 stumpings.
