Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 205/8 at the back of three individual performances at the top. Openers Chris Gayle and Mayank Agarwal scored 68 (35) and 45 (26) respectively, providing them with the perfect start. But it was Virat Kohli's 57 runs which helped them reach the 200 mark, as there was a batting collapse after the fall of Chris Gayle's wicket.

CSK's chase was mainly built around Faf du Plessis' innings in which he scored 71 off 46 deliveries and provided stability to the innings while the other batsmen batted around him.

Raina and Dhoni played useful cameos and helped CSK come close to the target. It seemed as if RCB were running away with the match as CSK needed 43 runs off last two overs. It was Albie Morkel who turned the match around for Chennai.

Coming into bat in the penultimate over, Morkel bludgeoned 28 runs off the first six balls he faced. After losing Morkel on the second ball of the last over, CSK won the match with the help of a last ball boundary by Jadeja.
